Anna Southgate

Anna Southgate writes and directs comedy and drama across television, radio, film, theatre and immersive entertainment. Her comedy writing began on BBC Radio 4’s Dead Ringers before extending to the television series.

Her filmmaking includes I Seek Asylum, made for the Helen Bamber Foundation and featuring Emma Thompson, Doon Mackichan and Aaron Pierre. Her work also includes the comedy pilot Mix Tape, made for Blue Raincoat Music, Chrysalis Records and Marshall Amplification, and the short Team Building.

As a script editor and development consultant, Anna has worked with the BFI, producers and writers across film and television. She wrote Handle with Care, guidelines on the depiction of violence towards women on screen, launched by the BFI in 2021. Her work with performers includes the Performance Lab at The Acting Center in Los Angeles.
