FARISHTA LATIF: We must get more information about our clients on call outs, we have to know what we are walking into.
FATIMAH BOHARI: Can I remind you, again, your job is about parachuting in, interpreting, and getting out. Nothing more.
ALEKSEY BABINSKY: Would knowing more help? We don’t have any powers, we are just interpreters.
FARISHTA LATIF: What about the Ukrainian woman and her daughter who you were interpreting for, and the leery landlord? Didn’t you find it impossible just to leave them there?
FARISHTA LATIF: (To Fatimah) He stayed until he found them alternative emergency accommodation.
ALEKSEY BABINSKY: I did do that, I had to.

ABOUT ANJUM

Anjum Malik is a Manchester-based scriptwriter, poet and performer whose work draws on lived experience, food and the stories of people whose voices are seldom heard.
Born in Saudi Arabia to a family of Pakistani heritage, she has lived in Pakistan and across the UK. Her experience as a police officer, interpreter, business owner and Kathak dancer informs her writing.
A senior lecturer in creative writing at Manchester Metropolitan University, her work spans television, radio, theatre and poetry alongside teaching and community projects. Her radio series The Interpreter draws on her work in courts, policing, immigration and hospitals.
In the King’s Birthday Honours 2026, she was appointed MBE for services to British South Asian Arts.
